Pregnancy
Services
Ultrasound is the
most performed investigation in pregnancy
(apart from the blood tests). It provides indirect vision of pregnancy
including the baby, the placenta and all factors related to pregnancy.
Baby Ultrasound scan services range from confirming pregnancy, early
on at 6 to 8 weeks, to monitoring baby's growth to term; and nowadays
4d baby scan is becoming very popular.
The more complicated the pregnancy is the more likely that more
baby ultrasound scans will be needed. The following are baby and
pregnancy ultrasound services at the One
Stop Clinics.
Pregnancy
Problems?- Fetal viability ultrasound scan 6-10 weeks (£90.00)
This is a scan to confirm an ongoing pregnancy especially in women
who have had worrying symptoms such as bleeding or pain. The ultrasound
examination is performed abdominally, but if there is vaginal bleeding
and or pain, a vaginal ultrasound is preferred. This route provides
better detail of the pelvic organs.
Down
syndrome testing - Nuchal Ultrasound scan and blood test 11-13+6
weeks (£160.00). For Twins Nuchal Scan the price will be £210.
The nuchal test is a baby ultrasound scan focusing on the thickness
of skin at the back of the baby's neck. Thickened skin is commonly
associated with Downs syndrome and other chromosome abnormalities.
This type of Down syndrome screening test technically known as the
Nuchal ultrasound examination is performed with the aim of screening
for Down syndrome and other chromosomal problems without the need
of amniocentesis. Amniocentesis is associated with a 1-2% risk of
miscarriage of a normal pregnancy.
Each pregnant woman's risk is estimated by a complex mathematical
formula combining the results of the woman's hormone tests, her
age, and the ultrasound measurement of the skin thickness on the
back of the baby's neck (nuchal thickness). Other ultrasound features
taken into account include nasal bone measurements. The accuracy
of this non-invasive test is estimated at about 97%. The results,
usually available within 24 hours, will then be given to the parents
following full counselling. Further tests may be recommended.
Baby
Ultrasound - Fetal Anomaly ultrasound scan 20-24 weeks (£170)
This is a very meticulously performed ultrasound scan examining
each system to identify any problems present. The examination includes
brain, spine, face, chest including heart and lungs, the liver,
stomach and bowel, kidneys and limbs.
Cervical
Assessment ultrasound scans - 20-24 weeks (£150.00)
Ultrasound may help identify women who are likely to miscarry or
have a premature labour due to a weak cervix. The weakness is reflected
by the shortening of the cervix as measured by ultrasound every
2 or 3 weeks. This examination is usually valuable in women with
a history of premature labour or repeated miscarriages after the
first trimester, that is, from 13 weeks onwards.
Determining
Gender of Baby 20+ weeks (£90.00)
For those individuals or couples who desire to know the sex of the
baby, ultrasound scan can correctly determine the gender of the
baby in about 95% of cases.
Pregnancy
Ultrasound -Reassurance mother and baby well-being ultrasound (£170.00)

There are many and varied reasons why ultrasound scans are performed
throughout pregnancy. In the vast majority of cases, there are clinical
indications such as when monitoring the baby's growth. When a mother
has had medical conditions that might affect the baby, such as diabetes,
more frequent ultrasound examinations may be required. From time
to time we are asked to do a scan because you are anxious about
something and you want reassurance. In all cases however, it is
to monitor the well-being of the pregnancy and baby.
The ultrasound scan involves assessing the baby's growth by measuring
the tummy and head size, the water around the baby, the baby's activity
and adequacy of blood flowing around the baby using Doppler.
