Whilst the full-spectrum Pregnancy Ultrasound is our main area of activity, we are much more than that. bumps care is a hub of information for all things to do with pregnancy and childbirth; it is a place to get to communicate with professionals, from Obstetricians to Midwives and Ultrasonographers as well as others going through a similar experience.

Nuchal Scans - Pregnancy Downs Syndrome Test
There have been many Down's Syndrome screening tests over the years. The gold standard is the amniocentesis that examines fetal chromosomes for abnormalities in Chromosome 21.

The initial diagnosis of an affected newborn is first suspected, in the vast majority of cases, from the facial features. However, this needs to be confirmed by a blood test that confirms presence of extra material of chromosome 21.

A Down's test and an early diagnosis is important so that care and support for the baby and family is appropriate. In most cases, the baby does need minimal support except feeding. Parents need to be reassured because they are most likely to be very distressed.
